The tale of the productive pauper
Once upon a time, a girl suddenly found herself poor as a church mouse. Having to curtail her usual activities centred around collecting pretty things, she turned instead to more productive pursuits.
She spent all day dusting, vacuuming, mopping and ironing, and when all that was done she mustered all her strength to haul heavy pieces of furniture from one side of the house to the other.
By 2pm, everything was sparkling and she felt a tremendous, new found sense of satisfaction and achievement.
I even downloaded some (much needed) new music onto my Ipod including Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King. I tried to put a little sound byte here so you can play it, but it was too hard.
You may recall it from the episode in Mad Men when Don runs away and stays with Anna. There is a little boy at Anna's house playing the piano, and the tune he's playing is In the Hall of the Mountain King.
When I was downloading it I found it has also been 'jazzed up' and a newer version of it is on the soundtrack of Social Network, the movie.
My version however is more traditional. It's Peer Gynt Suite No 1, Op 46 In the hall of the mountain king, played by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and David Parry (whoever he is?).
Look it up, it won't disappoint.
Now I'm off to dinner at Simpatico with some girlfriends. Somewhat of a last supper before we batten down the hatches and find a way to pay this bill!
